Monday Mullings

I have a slight interest in Cows.  It's an interest that I usually keep repressed only because no one makes any decent "Cow Decor."  I can refer you back to the mid-90's throw down that I pitched with my mother after she would not buy me a ratty looking cow at some random store on our way home from my aunt and uncle's in South Carolina.  That should give you a solid base for understanding my "interest" and that it has been around for a while.  However, please do not get this confused with the fact that I am still slightly terrified of them in person.

Fast forwarding to this past December when I bought my brother his canvas painting of a cow (I call it a generic "cow" because it is hard to tell the breed when it is a painting) and fell in love with the artist.  I especially love a canvas painting and the lack of a frame around a nice painting.  Sometimes the frame takes away from the painting, in my opinion.

Now, rewind again to many, many years ago to my great-grandmother's house.  She had a picture/painting of cows that hung over her red vinyl couch.  I remember that so vividly and how much I loved that picture.

One of the stores downtown is having a Moving Sale (they are moving across the street) and most of their merchandise is currently 75% off.  This is where I purchased my brothers painting and have since been eyeing two particular paintings.  I went in today just to see if they were still in the store...

Say what you want, but I love them!  Now, I just have to find a place to hang them!  One was priced at about $200 and the other at $300...I got both for about $100!  I was one happy chick!

Also, my corn is taking off and so is the rest of my garden!
This is my garden gnome
I still have a few that need to come up...they are slowly breaking ground, but they have some catching up to do!

His Plans for Us

Yesterday, I went to St. George Island with a girlfriend and was able to soak up some beautiful Florida sunshine!  However, while laying on the beach, I realized that I had lost my keys.  This is a huge rarity.  I do not lose anything.  In my [slight] OCD world, everything has its own place.  Keys are no exception.  Luckily, I had left the door unlocked so that Kim could come by and let Bentley out yesterday afternoon and I was able to catch him before he got to the house to ask him to leave it unlocked.  So, after a 30 minute panic attack, Michelle found them in her purse.  We have the same vehicle so she thought that they were hers.  She lives out in the County, so I won't get them back until later today.  I do have my spare truck key, but since I don't want to leave my house unlocked with my car not here (yesterday it was here because I rode with Michelle) I did not go to church today.  Therefore, since I still need to give my daily thanks to God, today you are going to get my "Georgia Testimony."  I call it that because I don't think God's plans for me are even close to being over.

{Ashely, you may not want to read}

In 2009, I was faced with a professional dilemma in my life.  Budget cuts were coming and it was my job and one other co-workers on the line.  I did what I needed to do to prepare myself, financially and responsibly.  I started looking for another job.  I had even asked my cousin, Ashley, to keep an eye out for me in Thomasville.  She had always teased about her wanting me here with her.  Thomasville was never really on my radar.  I never really put much thought into leaving the beautiful panhandle of Florida or the lower Alabama area where I was.  A large portion of my family was there, all my childhood friends, and all things that felt comfortable and real were there.  Oddly enough, I do beleive that the other person who was faced with his position being cut is still working there.  Oh well, this just goes to show that when God has a plan, He has a PLAN!

I found out that Ashley took the initiative to email Duane at the Planning and Zoning Department for the City.  He then forwarded the email to his boss, to which I received a phone call and then an interview.  Shortly after that, I received another interview and ultimately, an offer for a job.  Obviously, I took the job.  Ashley was thrilled and I still had mixed emotions on leaving everything I knew behind for a new job and a sole family member in a strange town.  However, everything fell into place so easily, it had to be a God thing and when you can tell it is, you don't mess with it or try to intervene with a much more powerful plan.  Remember, we know nothing and he is our Almighty.

I started in August of 2009 and I constantly wondered, thought and prayed "OK, God, why am I here?"  In April of 2010, Ashley found out she was pregnant.  She was SO thrilled!  Joseph, her husband and since this is a religious post I will refrain from calling him what he really is, was traveling a lot at the time.  It was later in April that I was sitting at my desk at 8:30 one morning and Joseph called me.  He told me Ashley still wasn't feeling good and had called him and needed me to take her to the ER.  I left work and took her to the ER, where we found out she had a lot of internal bleeding and a tubal pregnancy.

OK.  I now knew why I was here in Thomasville.  Who knows what would have happened if I wasn't here.  Please don't think this is a "Way to go, Stacey" post, because it isn't.  Sometimes, we need to realize that it is not what we do for others that should get the praise, it's what we do for other brothers and sisters in Christ, in a loving manner, that makes us realize our placement on this Earth.  We should all take care of our brothers and sisters in need.  We never know what troubles people may have going on in their lives so we should ALWAYS take that extra step to ensure that they are taken care of, just as our God has taken care of us.

Through the loss of her baby, I realized that that was why I was here.  That was why I found it so easy to come here.  Ashley needed me to take her to the hospital and God knew it, of course.  So, after feeling I had fulfilled my God filled plan, I had actually starting thinking of leaving.  However, I had then made a new friend and I enjoyed his company and we really hit it off.  We hung out and had fun until January of 2011.  Guess what else happened in January of 2011...

Ashley's husband decided that he didn't love her any more, this is where I would call him an ugly name again.  God had placed my new friend in my life to keep me here until Ashley needed me again.  Plain and simple.  In February, Ashley moved in with me and has been with me ever since.  I love that girl to death and wouldn't change these months for anything.  I don't adapt to change well, but she has been no problem to adapt to.  When you do things out of love, you don't notice the little things that you usually would when it's based out of a requirement verses love for one another.

In Jeremiah 29:11 we are told that God knows the plans for us and they are not to harm us, but to proposer us.  When we put full trust in our Lord and we fully believe in the three gifts He gave us, Faith, Hope and Love and trust even more in the greatest of these, Love, we will find our place in life and will fully prosper.  In I Corinthians 10:13, He tells us that He will never let us be tempted beyond what we can bear.  When we let down our earthly shields, we can open our hearts to hear our Heavenly plans God has for us.  Have you let down your sheild lately to listen to your heart?

There is an expression that life has a funny way of turning out, but it really isn't funny at all when you stop and think about it.  When we live our life as God expects us to, the funny part of living is really just us living out our plans.
  • Life hurts us
  • Life teaches us
  • Life makes us grow
But what really happens is:
  • God lets us get hurt and get broken down, but will never give us more than we can bear.  This happens so that we can put more Faith, Hope, and Love within Him.
  • God teaches us through our faults, our sins and our mistakes so that we can learn to trust Him more and to trust in His word and works.
  • God lets us grow. We grow outward with others, inward with ourselves and upward with Him.  These are the relationships to which life acts as an enabler, but it's not just "life," it is our path.
We also have to learn that our relationships with others are not all different.  They should be equal on the surface and intricately different based on your personal relationship with the person at hand.  I recently saw a post of Facebook that said "Negotiating, compromise, forgiveness and forgetting are all part of Love."  One day, but not anytime soon, I will forgive, forget and probably even thank Joseph for all he has done to Ashley because she is much better with a family that loves her than with a man who has done nothing but hurt her.  I am very protective of her and I still have anger in my heart against him for all that has happened to a beautiful, intelligent, nice and caring beyond her control, young lady before the age of 30.

As to the other turns of events, I am truly happy and blessed with the life that I have.   Duane, along with his wife and children, have become some of my greatest friends. Ashley, I would do it all again tomorrow.  I love you, you are my sister, you are my family, you were God's plan for me.

Mid Week Wonder

I want you to think back to my last post showing the picture of my garden.  It looked something like this...

If you notice in the back, there is hardley any growth, but now....

...it's looking really good!  Thanks to my daddy who told me what I needed to do with my corn!

Garden Growth

After one week of watching the exciting growth in my garden, I have finally found the time to sit down and blog about it.  It's been very fun coming home everyday to check the growth that happened during the day.

Radishes
My Beautiful Lilies!  Plus sweet potato vines and petunias.

Looking a little lively!

My calla lilies...I was nervous about these.  I had to break their root to plant them and I wasn't sure they would live, but they have made it a week and I'm sure their roots have established again!

Rosemary

My Cucumbers have broke through and have taken over it seems!

My cute zucchini...slowly coming up!
The whole experience has been a great learning process and hopefully, will be even more successful next year.

Yardening...

Yes, Yardening.  The action of working in my yard and garden,  which is what I did this afternoon after a late birthday lunch with my friend and co-worker, Barbara.

Here are a few pictures...
The beginning...

The sad, lonely boxwoods and snapdragons that I inherited...not staying!

Garden is planted!  I had baby plants of bell pepper, rosemary, squash and tomatoes.  My sweet corn, basil, dill, chives, radishes, leeks, scallions, zucchini, watermelon, cucumbers were all seeds...let's just hope it grows!

My patio is finished!  Notice the boxwood planters now have beautiful pink hydrangeas and I also found two Adirondack chairs today.  A man here in town makes them and I have always wanted some!

My whiskey barrel full of lilies, calla lilies, petunias and sweet potato vines.  Lillie's are one of my favorites!  Lillie's, tulips and orchids are my favorite flowers....just a small FYI.

Beautiful!

This is my birthday present from Heath and Elisabeth.  I have to tell ya, I love this!  I love pulling up in my driveway and seeing this beautiful POP of color in my yard.  Love, love, love!! It got its first dose of Miracle Grow water yesterday.  I can't wait for the colorful stems to be draping down!

These are the ferns that my parents gave me for my birthday!  They came from the "flower lady" in Century.  I miss her so much!  I do believe I went to see her at least once a month when I lived at home.

I am sure that I will pay for the lifting and bending tomorrow, but sitting in one of my new chairs, I am completely convinced that it was all worth it!

29 and Holding TIGHT!

I have delayed my blogging due to the fact that I have been recuperating from my Birthday Weekend!  Come with me, let me draw you a literary picture of my latest adventures that also included me getting older (not cool).

Friday, I had the day off due to working last Saturday for a conference.  Jason had given me a gift certificate to a local spa so I took advantage of it and booked a facial and a massage!  However, before I went to my spa appointment I went downtown to find some cute Easter cookie cutters and cupcake decorations.  I love our downtown and we have the cutest kitchen store which usually has everything I need!  Unfortunately, I found what I needed at Wal-mart...blah.  Anyway, after a that and paying my stinking tag renewal fee, I finally made it to my spa date.  It. Was. Wonderful!  I had my facial first and those who know me very personally know that I am a huge advocate of good skin.  I never had an acne problem in my younger years and I have a pretty good regime of skin care at night.  Granted, I do sleep in my make up sometimes, however, I try not to do it too often.  And while I thought that I was taking great care of my skin, this so called Skin Scan machine totally ruined my very prejudice opinion of my skin.  My face literally scared me!  This machine shows all the sun damage that has happened to your facial skin as well as your dehydrated areas (which are around my eye lids) and your oily spots.  My sun damage is horrible!  If you have never had one done, I strongly encourage you to do so and to take care of your skin!!  Those years of being outside SO much really shows and I am only 29!  In fact, I encourage you to google "skin scanner" and see what images pop up!  It's a UV light (purple-ish) and shows the dark spots (sun damage) very easily and voila, there's your damage!

Later that evening, my mom, dad, brother and soon to be sister-in-law arrived in T-town to start celebrating my birthday!  We went out to eat Friday night and had a great time with each other!

Saturday, we had a lazy morning but us girls finally got ourselves ready and went to pick up my birthday cake from the Bread Wagon (yummy!  Can't beat a homemade strawberry cake!) and then proceeded to shop downtown and met up with the guys for a late lunch.  We then sent them on their way (to go get my lawnmower thanks again!) and we went to tour Pebble Hill Plantation, but not before a quick photo shoot with the elk at Harden's Taxidermy...
Heath and Elisabeth

Me and Elisabeth

I love my parent!

The best bro!
Now, on to Pebble Hill..We didn't make it in time to get the tour of the house, but we did tour the grounds.  Very PRETTY!

After a great afternoon, we finally made it home and I found that my brother had been so sweet and mowed my front yard.  We had a great evening just sitting around chatting and having cake and coffee!

Sunday, we went to my church that I have found here and I was very surprised to see that my name had made it into the bulletin for my birthday.  I thought daddy was teasing me by telling me it was in there, but he was serious!  Afterwards, we came home to a delicious lunch mom had made and while daddy and Heath caught a quick nap we girls chatted it up outside.    Sadly, the time came when they had to leave and go back home.

I had a fantastic birthday and can't wait until you all come back and visit me again!

Bentley's Backyard

Hey Guys!  It's me again, Bentley!  Privet has kept me on a tight leash lately (no pun intended) but finally, after a 60 day wait, I have a backyard!  I am SO excited!  Privet and I have played fetch everyday, but tonight we played for a long time after her bike ride with Ashley.  I want you guys to look at this!  My little tail just wags all day long!  OK, here we go...

This is me in my yard.
This is me hiding my balls.
Now, I've hid all my balls.

Can't find any, can you?  I am an excellent hider!
Finally, all are back in their basket!
Wait, let me double check....one, two, three, four! Yup, they are all there! Gotta watch that edge though, it's a long way down!
Well, that sums up my yard...stay tuned to what I may do next!
